TRIP SLIP FALL AT WORK :: ACCIDENT COMPENSATION
Some of the most common injuries that are sustained in the workplace are due to employees tripping, slipping or falling on the business property, or on the property of a third party who is in some way connected to the work of the injured individual. It is estimated that in the UK alone, almost 9,000 people sustain injuries arising from trips and slips at work, most of which involve broken bones.

Workplace Health & Safety – Tripping & Slipping Claims
Since employers are required to ensure that the workplace is safe for his/her employees, and particularly because employers need to take out Employer's Liability insurance to cover their workers in the case of a work-related accident, it is fairly easy for workers to claim compensation for a trip or fall accident that occurs on the work premises. However, in order to make a claim, the individual must be sure that the accident was a result of a hazardous condition on the property and not due to their own negligence.

Safe Floors
Employers must ensure that all surfaces and floors should be safe in relation to the work that is being carried out on the premises. In other words, the business owner(s) must make sure that floors and surfaces are not slippery or uneven, and that there is sufficient drainage. It is also the employer's responsibility to ensure that there is enough lighting in the workplace to prevent the occurrence of accidents, and that handrails be provided on staircases, except where they will obstruct the pedestrian flow. If your employer has been negligent with respect to these conditions or other factors (for example, an uncovered pothole on the premises), the chances of being able to make a successful claim are very good.

Preserve Evidence
If you think you have a claim against your employer, you should seek the advice of a solicitor. At the time of the incident, or as soon as possible afterwards, it is also important to inspect the area where you fell, determine what caused you to fall, take photographs of the site and the hazardous elements, and write down the names, addresses and telephone numbers of any witnesses.
